Dates: June 11-14, 2007
Location: Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Aim and objectives:
This course on biosafety will provide instructions in effective procedures and practices to sampling, ship, and study biological infected material. Participants will learn how to enter and exit P2 and P3 laboratories, how to manipulate pathogens and use safety equipment, how to monitor and maintain biosafety facilities, how to respond to emergencies, techniques of waste management and requirements for biosecurity.
The benefit for China and Asia, is a strong education on manipulation of infectious material to minimize the risk of accident in laboratory practices, a standardization in the classification of pathogens and of biosafety levels and laboratory design, and a contribution to the establishment of a network of microbiologists who could share information and establish collaboration in the future.
Topics and organization of the courseTopics of the course will include three days presentations and videos on several aspects concerning classification of pathogens and of containment, regulation, procedures, equipment, quality control. Demonstration and practical training will also be organized the following day for training on manipulations of infectious material and on experiments in animals in high security laboratory, inactivation of pathogens, decontamination of material.
